Who Cares to Admit Complete Defeat?

The title of this entry comes from the 12 and 12 of A.A.  Step One.

I know it’s hard for people to take this concept and apply it to the general situation we live in, but honeychildren we are all inside an addictocracy.  The nuts have been ruling the roost for quite some time–probably 10,000 years since men and women started threshing wheat.  (And yes, I do think that glue-ten grains have quite a bit to do with the whole fracas we live inside of.)

Since I’m pretty far into the game of admitting complete defeat, I know the power of surrender.  And it’s not an easy thing to come to terms with, but it’s necessary nonetheless.

Some metaphors based on Step One: “It is truly awful to admit that, nozzle in hand, we have warped our minds into such an obsession for global destructiveness that only an act of Providence can remove it from us.” 

“Civilization, now become the rapacious creditor, bleeds us of all self-sufficiency and all will to resist its demands.”

“We know that little good can come to the recovering civlized man or woman who joins Civilization Anonymous until s/he has first accepted this devastating weakness and all its consequences.”

“The tyrant civilization wielded a double-edged sword over us:  first we were smitten by an insane urge that condemned us to go on brutalizing ourselves and others, to go on consuming our souls and the planet with abandon, and then by the effects of these depredations upon our environment, rendering our living spaces more and more toxic and deadly, which would obliterate us from the planet in the process.”

We stand ready to do anything to lift this obsession from us.
